Closed Guard Flow Drills

Sebastian Lopez Fighting From Closed Guard

Sebastian Lopez Fighting From Closed Guard

This month in the ciriculum at Team Third Law has been all about working inside of the closed guard and all the most effective techniques that our school teaches. These include the Arm drag series, bump sweep series, traingle setup, unstopbable armbar, and trapped arm sweep. For more information on our ciriculm visit… http://www.ThirdLawCoach.com

This website shows all the techniques we have been teaching in class over the past couple of months and what to work on with the techniques. Most schools don’t offer this but we feel that it will only improve your Jiu Jitsu game if you can go home and research the technique being done on your own. This coming week we will start to work on the flow drills of closed guard and at this point in the ciriculum the drills really start to stick into your mind.

Flow drills are the best way to get good at a series of techniques because all of the drills flow together in a series of different variations and that in a nutshell is how Jiu Jitsu works. Action – reaction Jiu Jitsu, if the person does this I go for that its a very simple way of learning and its the best way to learn because you will never be lost in a position if you know all of the variations of techniques involved with the position. So make sure you come to class this week and make your closed guard game UNSTOPPABLE.

Always Four Points Of Control

When your on bottom playing open guard your number one concern beyond everything else should be keeping FOUR POINTS OF CONTROL, I say this in all caps because it is SUPER IMPORTANT for you do this and be successful at Jiu Jitsu. You always have to have a foot somewhere, a hand on something always. If the person breaks your grip you have to replace it as soon as possible or else you could get your guard passed. Without keeping four points of control your letting the other person pass your guard and giving them a big opportunity to do so.

You will notice when you watch our competitors highlights on http://www.Youtube.com/TeamThirdLaw you will see how all of our competitors live by this rule of four points of control because without that the other person is at a huge advantage. From now on watch yourself when your playing open guard and catch yourself when your  not putting your hands or feet on something. It doesn’t matter at first if you think its best just knowing that you always have to keep four points of control will develop you into a superior grappler.

Key rules like this are sometimes not taught but it must be understood that when playing open guard if you have less points of control then the person trying to pass your guard then your about to get passed and put into a bad spot. The good news is that Jiu Jitsu teaches you how to fight from your back and playing open guard can become your strongest guard so remeber always keep four points of control no matter what, and replace your points of control as quickly as possible to prevent your guard from getting passed.

Being Prepared For Tournaments

Before going to tournaments you have to prepare yourself mentally and physically. When your prepared mentally you have a gameplan developed, you feel confident in your abilities and know what your good at and what works for you. Being prepared physically means you have been training hard lately getting in great shape fir the tournament and you have a hotel room, registered, and have transportation.

The two main aspects of being prepared would be mentally and physically. Therefore having a devloped gameplan knowing exactly what you are going to do and sticking to it in your match. since you have a gameplan it makes you so much more confident in yourself and when your gameplan is working in your match.

The key point is that you shouldn’t just wake up the day of the tournament and compete without being a little bit prepared. It only makes sense to do these things before a tournament because they’ll increase your preformance during the match….

Teen Competitors – Team Third Law – Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

In this video Jake Huffman one of our teen competitors did extremely well in the Abu Dhabi this past weekend taking second place in his division where he fought mostly blue belts, and ended up losing his last match to take the silver. Jake is a prime example that we have a very strong competition team and we are developing more and more competitors to compete at the highest level.

We have a lot of teens around Jakes age which is 15 coming up and wanting to compete so definitely expect more videos in the future of competitors tearing up their divisions just like Jake is doing. So If your interested in a martial arts program for your son, or daughter let us know because we have a great program for them that you don’t want to miss out on.

The atmosphere at Team Third Law is a perfect atmosphere for your young son or daughter.
