When training Jiu Jitsu you always have to keep an open mind to what is being taught, no matter what the technique is because as soon as you restrict yourself to not wanting to believe in anything except what you think is right and no one will tell you different. This is when your going to run into problems with your learning experience. When your in class keep an open mind to what you are being taught even if you think you already know the technique or whats being taught there is always something new to learn about it.
This could be a detail you have forgotten, or possibly a setup to get to submission that your not t0 sure about. The best way to learn anything is to accept what your being taught once your able to do that you can learn anything about anything. It’s all about listening to your teachers keeping an open mind and training hard to acheive your goals. Maybe your goal is to get in better shape, learn self-defense it is something that is definately achieveable with the Jiu Jitsu program at Team Third Law.
When I say keep an open mind it doesn’t just mean in class but everywhere. When your at working and someone shows you a new way of doing something that could lead to better productivity and for a faster smoother run day. Who wouldn’t start implementing it right away…. Right? Well sometimes this is not the case, simply because the other person is keeping their mind closed and only wants to do what he thinks works best and not take in any outside information. This just does not make sense to me, what makes sense to me is always keeping an open mind and learning as much as you can from everyone around you…

We have had tremendous sucess with the bump sweep or hip over sweep with all of our competitors at Team Third Law BJJ of Naples, FL. In the grappling class you will see countless number of people going for the bump sweep when the other person gives them the opportunity and what I mean by the opportunity is reacting in the closed guard by either sitting back a little bit, or say wiping some sweat off their face is the perfect time to go for the bump sweep to get to mount and win the fight.
Think about it who doesn’t want to learn a sweep that will win you matches if you get it down. If your a closed guard player then you need to lern this technique if you don’t it is going to hurt your closed guard game alot. The variations of attacks from this position are endless you can do bump sweep to kimura, bump sweep to triangle, bump sweep to gullotine but what we have had the most sucess with is the bump sweep to kimura and triangle so thos two are the two we have been drilling everyone on in class, improving on our strengths as a school.
Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that is built on action-reaction techniques if the person does this I go for this the list goes on and on, and you have to be ready for any scenario that can arise so going for a bump sweep when the time is right could end the fight with you in mount looking for the submissions its a great sweep that is super effective and used at alll levels of Jiu Jitsu.

Testing
Its that time of the month again, TWO Days and counting until the test on Wednesday for our students at Team Third Law of Naples, FL. The Test will consist of 3 main sets of flow drills. For those of you that don’t know what a flow drill is you can find out all of this information and more about how our curriculum works online at http://www.ThirdLawCoach.com
This website offers our student an amazing resource to go on and check out all of the techniques we are learning that month or going to be learning for that month. It is an amazing resource for improving your Jiu Jitsu game. Most schools don’t have a website with a detailed curriculum and videos being put up where you can see the technique being used at the highest level of competition.
At Team Third Law we are always pushing our students to do better on our tests because when we push them to do better on the test they are drilling the technique more and putting in more and more mat time. In turn when test day comes they are well prepared and know exactly what to expect come test time. I really look forward to seeing all the students on Wednesday 1/3/10 for testing and for those of you that are not students check out…

As you can see from this video, tomorrow is the day of the Abu Dhabi Trials, and all of Team Third Law competiors that were hungry to show their stuff at this tournament are going to be displaying their skills tommorow and hopefully bringing home some shinny golds to decorate the walls of Team Third Law.
This tournament is a big tournament, and a first tournament at a new level for Chris Ocampo one of Team Third laws recent blue belts. Like I said earlier our team is really hungry to compete to do really well and display how the instruction at Team Third Law is top notch. Although this is a big tournament it isn’t an international Brazilain Jiu Jitsu competition, which is where Roberto is shooting to get medals from this year.
So this event being a great event to get some awesome mat experience in for Pan-Ams coming in April, Worlds, and other large tournaments, were the team can help Roberto Torralbas reach his goal of some International Titles. You can read more on that article in a later post and also on http://wwww.BJJEnginer.com
