This piece of equipment is a must have for the kickboxing program, be in in the class or in between class you can use this bag to work on your handspeed and really be able to see where punches are coming from when i need to protect myself and when I can throw punches back.
This isn’t a speed bag in that you are not looking for getting the most punches but to just work on your timing and getting down how to move around the person when they are firing back. Because once you hit the double ended bag it can come right back and hit you in the face if your not looking, this is whey at Team Third Law we have to look at this like music

Olympic Rings, the rings at the school have a variety of uses, mainly a great way to practice the standard exercise known as the pull-up to build upper body strength, but also a great way to get a total body workout if you can push yourself to the next level with muscle-ups. A muscle-up is where you do a pull-up but you take the pull-up to the next level by pushing yourself up and over the rings and finishing with a tricep dip. When you combine these movement to be able to do mutiple muscle-ups is a great feet to accomplish.
The record at Team Third Law right now is twelve and no one has really come close to this but the record is always up for new challengers and people that are determinded to take their fitness to the next level. Olympic rings can also be used for many different gymnastic exercises which will build explosive strength and also endurance muscle by forcing your arms and upper body to be able to hold you up for extended periods of time.

Tires have so many different uses we use them at Team Third Law with our kids, adults, everyone is using these tires at the school, you can use them for lifting also you can combine the tires with a later tool that we use called the sludgehammer. We use alot of different partner exercises with the tires, one for example would be two people are standing back to back and you pass the tire side to side between each other.
So many different uses, of the tire and just makes the school better and better as we become more and more creative for the different uses we can get out of what most people throw away when they go bad, but at Team Third Law we use them for lifting, throwing, dragging, whatever it is we do to always push the envelope of Jiu Jitsu at the Best school in the Florida Area for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Yoga, and Strength & Conditioning.

This box is more than it looks, if used properly it will give you a killer anaerbic workout, using your legs to jump on top of the box and then jump back off is just one of the many uses that this tool offers in training. Which is going to build your speed, agility, and strength in your legs. The faster you jump up and down on top of the box the better the workout you get.
At Team Third Law we like to really mix up the training with tons of different aspects, and tools that are going to give you workouts from all positions. This one especially is going to build speed in your legs, and most importantly anaerobic exercise. Jiu Jitsu i’s an anaerboic exercise meaning you are lifting weights and doing cardio not just keeping your heart rate at a certain zone but operating at its highest levels at times and then relaxing at others.

The Pegboard, this is by far one of the most challenging pieces of equipment at Team Third Law. The object of this is to use the pegs to climb yourself all the way up to the top of the board by going into each whole all the way up and all the way down. No one has completed this task yet at the school, it is very, very challenging but once accomplished will be well deserved.
The Pegboard is a equipment only usable if you are apart of the combat gold program, at Team Third Law, which consists of an invite only group of the most advanced students that show the most dedication and willingness to learn new techniques to improve their jiu jitsu. So if you want your shot at the pegboard your first step is to make it to Team Third Law’s Combat Gold.

The Power Wheel, a bigger version of the ab roller that actually attaches to your feet that way you can begin to use your legs to extend back and forth working your abdominal muscles. Notice with the ab roller you use both of your arms but this switches it up attaching to your feet, and not only is it going to give you a great abdominal workout, but you also have to be aware of your balance.
Balance, and Core Strength are super important for developing a great jiu jitsu guard, and also an overall game plan. Brazilian jiu jitsu is a very healthy one and with tools such as the Power wheel, to get your core super strong, it makes your game improve that much more.

It is true that a belt color symbolizes a good understanding of the technique, and a way to pass on the techniques to others in theory. The truth of the matter that in this day and age at least in the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a Blue Blet instructor can surpass the ability to teach than much black belt instructors. There are many things that are requied that many black belt instructors take for granted..
For example here are some of the things you can do that if a blue belt instructor did could surpass that of a black belt.

Mendes vs. Cobrinha
The De la Riva guard is a guard that is mainly utilized at the highest level of Jiu Jitsu. Mainly people like Rafael Mendes and Cobrinha have been using this guard and destroying their opponents with. Making it a guard that if you don’t understand how the guard works and everything flows together then your being left in the dust.
At Team Third Law we have realized this and have utilized the position in competition and drilling the guard everyday in the combat gold program. Drilling the back-takes, sweeps, submissions everything about the guard, as well as learning to understand the concept of how De La Riva flows together with 2 other positions as well. Those being the Half Guard, and 50/50.
So as you can see the De La Riva Guard is definitely a guard where the possibilities of attacks are limitless, and very effective if being utilized by World Champions. Like I said earlier we need to mimic the best to be the best. Do what works, and do what you know works. So I look forward to drilling the position more and more to better understand the overall concept behind the entire position

In January, Roberto Torralbas put Joey Ruggiero (me) on the spot in front of class and asked him what he wanted to do before he died and I said go to Italy… So instead of waiting forever to get something like this done and then maybe never get it done Roberto pushed me to achieve this in three months. So In March me and Roberto will be going to Italy to be able to check that off my my bucket list.
Now that you know the background of where this story is coming from I want to share with you some of the places we are going to be visiting on this awesome trip…

On the top of the list is the Colosseum a place where gladiators fought and many events were help a super important stop on the trip. Were also going to see if they’ll let us grapple inside the Colosseum. Making sure to represent Team Third Law BJJ in Italy very well. Leading us to the next stop on our trip being.

City of Rome
The city of Rome has a HUGE amount of things that you can do but mainly has some of the nicest spots to eat ever. Then after seeing all that rome has to offer, maybe visit some of the museums to see some of the sculptures, just try to see as much as possible.
These are just some of the things that we plan on doing when we get to Italy doing as much as we can as fast as we can because time is limited. More ideas on plans for Italy and PLEASE!! leave in the COMMENTS some ideas that you may have for us on things to do.

Next up for absolute were Joey and Chris. Chris had the first match and it started off by him getting taken down unexpectedly which would later be the only points scored throughout the entire match although Chris had a battle fighting for a sweep with the ommoplata to get on top. Then it was Joey’s turn to test himself in the absolute where he fought the same opponent his teammate Chris lost to and dismantled him by triangling him within a minute of the match. Then for Joey in the NoGi, his first match he pulled guard, then opponent forced him into 50/50 where his opponent was attempting a heel hook until the referee, said no twisting, only straight, kept fighting from that position then when Joey’s opponent went for a Toe hold thinking that his opponent would get the DQ and an easy win tapped and then referee decided that he meant only heel hooks applied to twisting submissions. Nonetheless Joey learned a valuable lesson to never ever leave it to the referees to make decisions.
The day went awesome and as a team we had 23 wins and only 10 losses with 3 brand new competitors. More tournaments to come and excited to see more and more people joining the competition team to start taking their steps to becoming the best they possibly can a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

The Ab Roller is an excellent way to strenthen your core abdominal strength, into abs of steel. We do many different applications of this piece of equipment such as planks, where you start on you knees holding the ab roller and extend your arms to where you really feel your core muscles buring. Then we have you hold it there for 30 seconds, buring your abs stregthening your core. Core muscles are super important for Jiu Jitsu. One of the most fundamental muscles of the sport
Without a strong core in Jiu jitsu, it is very hard to keep your guard from getting passed, and overall aids to better health. The core muscles protect your vital organs from getting injured so strengthening the muscles around them especially when training in a martial art that includes alot of physical contact to that area is very beneficial.
